Mystery shrouds about iPad 2 cameras

Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the heavily awaited  iPad 2 with loads new features. Jobs did criticize the rival tablet makers and called them copycats. The Year 2010 was known as the year of iPad – How? Well, iPad has been the top searched term at the Google Search engine as per the Google Zeitgiest. Personally, I love Apple products on grounds of design and performance. However, this time iPad 2 appears to me as a rushed up job just to shut the speculations or to get a knee-jerk reaction from those who dare to launch an Android tablet.

Without bantering much around the bush, I mean issue, I will come straight to the point. There’s no clarity on the capacity of Image Sensors used in iPad 2. That simple information wasn’t divulged. Neither at the launch nor in the specifications sheet. Now that makes me wonder if Apple was ashamed to reveal whether iPad 2 carries 3 megapixel or 5 megapixel camera at the back. The rival Android 3.0 Honeycomb based tablets seems to have 5 megapixel or 8 megapixel cameras with 1080p HD video recording. Even RIM BlackBerry PlayBook which has been heavily criticized to be mere specifications wonder flaunts 5 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording capacity.

Despite of being aware about the Android tablets carrying smartphones quality rear panel cameras, Apple still plays mysterious about the ones in iPad 2. The only detail available is
Back camera: Video recording, HD (720p) up to 30 frames per second with audio; still camera with 5x digital zoom
Front camera: Video recording, VGA up to 30 frames per second with audio; VGA-quality still camera
Even though I foresee my fellow bloggers and several readers disagree with me, I think Apple is having cold about the camera department on the iPad 2. Technically the iPad 2 camera can record 720p HD video but the 9.7 inch display itself isn’t 720p HD capable. Once again the marketing gimmick about the 720p HD and 1080p HD video recording/playback will boggle several potential tablet buyer.

At this moment, all eyes are glued to  iFixit for an iPad 2 tear down for revealing the internal hardware.
